Train like an Olympian!
Olympic Teams around the world, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and France have a secret to getting their bodies in world class shape; that secret is the Power Plate, and you can try it now here in Toronto at Flex Rx Studio.
The French ski team, competing in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics are using the Power Plate to train and tone in just 30 minute sessions. The team has observed dramatic improvement in their athletes’ performance and power.
Training on the Power Plate is the ideal way for champion athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike to prepare for the piste, as it can help reduce the risk of injuries by improving stability and balance, as well as strengthening the core and leg muscles.
In addition to increasing strength and agility, the Power Plate also offers massage and relaxation, the ideal way to ease aching muscles after a day on the slopes. While most people won’t have their sights set on competing in the next Winter Olympics, you can still prepare for all winter sports by working out at Flex Rx Studio.

Fit and fierce
Cougar Town star Courtney Cox Arquette is a big advocate of the Power Plate. She used the machine as she prepared for her role as a newly divorced mom who is getting back into dating after years of marriage. She said,
“The Power Plate has dramatically changed my workout. I know that every muscle in my body is being ignited in ways that you can’t do with traditional training. Its uses are limitless. I love this machine!”
Courtney’s trainer, Michelle Lovitt said that it helps celebrities get red-carpet ready in less amount of time in comparison to traditional exercise. Lovitt said,
“If your schedule doesn’t always allow time for traditional exercise, Power Plate Acceleration Training is great because you get a full, targeted workout in as little as three 30-minute sessions a week, and still see amazing results.”

What a sweet idea!

One of the best parts about the holiday season are the goodies!!
Here are some healthy baking tips that are easy and oh so good.
- To reduce the fat content, replace 1/2 the oil or butter with a fruit puree… consider bananas or applesauce.
- Add shredded veggies and fruits such as carrots, apples and zucchini.
- Replace 1/2 or all of your refined flour with whole wheat flour or spelt.
- Overcome dairy sensitivies by using soy, rice or nut milks.
- Honey and maple syrup are healthier alternatives to refined white sugar.
- Substitute sweet or semi-sweet chocolate with heart-healthy dark chocolate.
Sounds sweet to me!!

shoot, that was fun!
This week CosmoTV’s “Oh So Cosmo” came into the studio for a shoot.
They were excited about the Power Plate’s intense 30 minute workout… perfect for the Cosmo Girl… women on the go, with busy schedules, who want maximum results from their workout.
Thanks to hosts Josie and Jacqui for having fun on the machine. To Brent the producer for researching Power Plate so much that he probably knew more about it than me and to Reuben for his skilled camera work in a less than huge shooting space.
The show is to air in December. Stay tuned for deets….

High five guys!
One of my newer clients is a 72 year old woman who has been experiencing hip pain for months that shoots down her entire leg. She has also had trouble for years, catching her breath even after moderate activity. She came to me about 3 weeks ago and has had only 5 workouts on the Power Plate. She is so amazed at her increased mobility and range of motion that she went out and bought her very own Power Plate machine to use at her home!!
Here are some other comments from my “too cool clients” that were posted on my recent coverage on Slice.ca.
Thanks guys!!
I’m one of Sarah’s clients. I have been going 2 or 3 times a week for almost 2 months. The change to my physique is ABSOLUTELY apparent, and the effect on my core strength is palpable in all regards. I am a paddler and motorcyclist, and this summer was the best yet due primarily to Sarah’s hard work, diverse workout, and positive energy.
This winter I’m going to be READY for snowboarding season!
Thanks Sarah!
~ Dan
I’ve actually been to Flex Rx. Wow, what a work out, and Sarah really know’s how to make you feel comfortable if you’re not really into working out (read, I am outta shape).
I recommend it highly.
~ Craig
I’ve been to Sarah’s studio and purchased a package of 10 sessions.
I’ve played sports my whole life, and consider myself fairly athletic, but I’m not ashamed to say that she made me break a sweat and had me counting down the seconds during several exercises.
If you’re on the fence, give it a try, you’ll be VERY glad you did!!!
~ zak
I’ve been training on the power plate with Sarah for 5 weeks and I feel fantastic!
Sarah is a great motivator and constantly changes my program to keep me challenged.
Love it!

Toronto’s teams use Power Plate!
Did you know…
Toronto’s professional teams are using Power Plate as part of their training regime.
The Toronto Blue Jays, Raptors and even our Leafers!
Now considering how crappy the leafs are doing this season… I am not sure how effective this testimonial actually is!
GO LEAFS!

Thanks!
Here are some recent comments and testimonials from my awesome clients…
Sarah is amazing as a personal trainer. She’s the kind of girl who always lifts your mood, and she’s extremely positive when training you. I HATE to work out, but the short, intense sessions on the power plate with Sarah are amazingly effective to improving fitness quickly.
Oww..it hurts so good. Thanks!

all the cool kids are doing it
One of my clients / friends posted the following on his motorcycle message board.
Thanks Dank for creating a buzz with your bike buddies!
Here is what he had to say…
I’m doing it (Power Plate) for riding, to strengthen my core and shoulders and for boarding.
I have had 10 sessions and can’t believe how much of a difference i feel just walking up stairs. And i was not terribly unfit to begin with.
I’ve also lost about 8 lbs, which is pretty significant for me.
One totally breaks a sweat. She incorporates medicine balls into the workouts as well as weights and tension bands. There is also a lot of yoga based poses as well. The Ab-V is crippling. But i can now hold one at the medium strength setting for a minute.
My riding has improved markedly, as i’m now using my core more, and not loading up my wrists/shoulders at all any more, and allowing me to just use my arms for steering inputs.
I also have not had any back issues, as i’m improving my abs, which helps to better align your spine for load bearing and day to day use. Pretty amazing considering that i would have 2 or 3 “back events” a year that would leave me in quite a bit of pain for 3 or 4 days straight.
It’s cool. All the cool kids are doing it.

ship shape
When I first read about the Power Plate over a year ago, I had never heard of it before. It caught my attention because at the time, I was undergoing laser treatment on a tear in my planter fascia. I was 17 out of 18 weeks into my training for a marathon and found myself knocked on my keister while my foot healed.
The Power Plate seemed like a fun and innovative way to stay fit during my recovery. It was and I fell in love.
I guess the rest you could say is history.
Anyways, it seems like the Power Plate hype is really starting to catch on… all over the world.
Here are some current media releases from September and October!

retro vibes
My good friend Raymi created this masterpiece to adorn my Studio wall.
I just love it.
I have to laugh every time someone asks me “so is your machine like those old machines that vibrated? You know, the ones that had the strap thingy?”
Nope, not quite. Just try to drink a nice glass of lemonade on a Power Plate machine… !
Oh the wonders of advanced technology…
.
a big cup of “do not drink this”
Why oh why does such deliciousness have to be so very terrible for us?
Cold Stone Creamery has come to the Tim Horton’s on the Danforth. Now serving donuts, coffee AND ice cream!
But I warn you to stay away… far away. Their Peanut Butter & Chocolate milkshake is so bad it will blow your mind.

very sneaky

I am a bit of a running shoe junkie. I just love them and have one for every season. Seriously, I have a pair for the winter that have these crazy treads for gripping snow.
Anyways, I found out about an interesting program called “Let the Sneakers Walk Again. ” It is a program to help impoverished communities in Haiti. A lot of people cannot afford footwear and walk around barefoot, which is leading to widespread foot diseases that can result in amputation and death.
So, if you or any of your friends and family have a gently used pair of sneakers kicking around, please bring them in to the studio and I will make sure they are donated for you.
Thanks!
